Mike Swaine started DJing at the age of 16, buying euphoric trance on vinyl. At 18 he went to The University of Exeter where one night he ended up at the infamous ‘Cavern’ venue and discovered the world of drum & bass.
Since then Mike hasn’t looked back and started spinning everything under the ‘bass music’ genre, from breakbeat and electro to dubstep and d&b.
Over the years Mike has DJed alongside the hottest DJs in that field including, Pendulum, Chase and Status, MistaJam (1xtra), Eddy Temple-Morris, Kissy Sell-out, Judge Jules, Soul Of Man, Danny Byrd, Gash DJs and Dirty Sanchez. Over the years Mike has played to thousands of people including numerous large scale events including the Urban Stage at Bournemouth University’s Summer Ball, We Are You Friends – Block Party and 3rd Birthday, as well as hosting the opening night for the Animal Windfest on Sandbanks beach in Poole in 2008.
Outside of DJing, Mike works at the forefront of the music world, promoting records to club DJs and radio presenters. This includes tracks from Kanye West, Chase and Status, M.I.A, Maximum Balloon, N.E.R.D, Black Eyed Peas, LMFAO, Tinie Tempah, Ellie Goulding, Chiddy Bang, Lana Del Rey, Timbaland and Rihanna.

Bass and Breaks features the best in 'underground' dance music.
Bass and Breaks started life as a guest mix show on Fire Radio. In 2007 Mike took over from the legendary Dave Aquasky to host the breaks and drum & bass show on Friday nights one Fire. 5 years on Bass and Breaks is still unleashes its unique brand of music to the inhabitants of Bournemouth (and now the South Coast on DAB) as well as being syndicated around the world.
Over the last few years we have had guest mixes and interviews from Zedd, High Rankin, A-Skillz, Beat Assassins, Andy C, High Contrast, Camo & Krooked, Sigma, Russ Chimes, Grooverider plus loads more.
In 2010 Bass and Breaks received an International Breakbeat Award (Breakspoll) nomination for best podcast and has been shortlisted for best radio show in 2011 and 2012. From this the show gained more popularity, word has spread of Bass and Breaks and the show has developed into the beautiful beast it is today.
